‘Superstar’ Bill Dundee Passes Away At Age 82

Former NWA wrestler and Memphis Wrestling legend “Superstar” Bill Dundee, real name William Cruickshanks, passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.

Dunee’s passing was first announced by his son Jamie on Facebook who stated that his father had passed away at around 3:30 AM this morning.

The September 5th episode of Memphis Wrestling TV featured a tribute segment celebrating Dundee’s wrestling career and life.

Prior to his passing, Dundee had been battling stage-three dementia for the past several years.

Dundee’s pro wrestling career spanned from 1962 to December of 2019. Dundee was born in Scotland and raised in Australia and worked as a pro wrestler in the country from 1962 until he moved to the United States in 1974. Dundee was most known for his time in Memphis Wrestling and also had notable stints in American Wrestling Association, Jim Crockett Promotions, and Florida Championship Wrestling.

Dundee also had a brief stint with WCW from 1993 until his firing in October of 1994 and was most known as being the manager of Lord William Regal during his time with the company.

Dundee’s wrestling career achievements and accolades included being a nine-time AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion, fourteen-time AWA Southern Tag Team Champion, two-time AWA World Tag Team Champion, one-time CWA Southwestern Heavyweight Champion, one-time NWA Central States Heavyweight Champion, one-time Mid-South Television Champion, one-time USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion, and induction into the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2017.
