Will Ospreay Says He Has Discussed New AEW Match Concepts With Tony Khan

A recent episode of the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast featured AEW World Champion Will Ospreay as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Ospreay’s thoughts about him having discussions with AEW CEO Tony Khan about potential new match ideas in AEW.

“I’ve spoken to Tony[Khan] about some different matches that I’d like to try out and ones that haven’t been done before. This is just me sitting by myself and just talking and getting ideas together and just going like, ‘Well, I like this match and I like this match, but is there a way we can combine them together?’ Kind of like the Casino Gauntlet.

“It’s Tony’s ingenious idea where it’s kind of got that Royal Rumble feel to it, but it’s one fall and it can end. So I kind of like the fact that Tony experimented with that idea and I’ve kind of taken inspiration for myself with it. I love sports-based wrestling. I love, like, the World Cup was such a big thing. I love watching people come together. I love the sports aspect of it. I love seeing people come from behind and find ways of getting the victory there. So I’ve got ideas of match styles that I want to try out.”

Ospreay also gave his thoughts about how he would love to go against the “old pillars of AEW” during his title reign and he would like to test himself against former champions throughout AEW’s history.

Ospreay also gave his thoughts about how he would like to face off against Chris Jericho again in a potential future match.

“[Chris] Jericho. No, Jericho at All In, the first one, but I’d really like to revisit that again just because he’s the first ever champion, so there’s something that I could easily revisit with him.”
