This week at the box office, the WWE Studios/Relativity Studios horror film Oculus dropped five spots down to #8. The film made $5.2 million, down 57%, which is about in line with what horror films drop from their opening weekend. Thus far the film has made $21.2 million domestically from a budget of $5 million.
Studios usually recoup 55% of a film’s grosses on average, meaning it needs to approximately double its budget to be profitable during its theatrical run. With several international markets yet to debut the film, the film is already considered financial success.
