Though WWE officials have been working hard to show that repeated marijuana use violations will no longer be dismissed as inconsequential (a number of outlets have claimed that marijuana violations played a role in the buildup to Brian Kendrick’s release), sources say numerous wrestlers continue to accumulate the $1,000 penalty fees for using the drug. For those wondering, Rey Mysterio’s wellness policy violation doesn’t appear to be entirely pot related.
With the suspension of Rey Mysterio going into effect next Wednesday (September 2nd), it is likely that Mysterio will be dropping the Intercontinental Championship at the Smackdown tapings on Tuesday in Cleveland, OH. It’s interesting that they are letting him work one more week even with a wellness violation. They could have easily shot an angle without him next week where he would be stripped of the title.
