WWE has officially released Rey Mysterio from his WWE contract. The company quietly moved Mysterio to the “Alumni” section of their website earlier today, after we reached out to confirm Mysterio’s status. WWE officially responded, saying, “Rey Mysterio is no longer under contract with WWE.”
Mysterio hasn’t been on WWE TV since the Raw after WrestleMania 30 and had been plagued by injuries over the last several years. Mysterio’s contract was set to expire in May but as previously reported, he had been trying to get out of his contract for some time and appeared in a taped video at AAA’s August TripleMania event. He had been seen backstage at a Lucha Underground event in October.
