According to reports, Samoa Joe beat Shinsuke Nakamura at WWE NXT Takeover: Toronto so the program could continue. WWE officials reportedly felt that Nakamura winning again wouldn’t leave much left for the feud. WWE will tape the rematch in Osaka, Japan. The upcoming NXT event in Melbourne, Australia will feature Joe vs. Nakamura in a cage match.
While Joe’s win would suggest he won’t be called up soon, the win simply made the most sense. It’s believed that Nakamura doesn’t have to be beaten to remain over and WWE may be headed to a title program for Bobby Roode. Nakamura being champion for that would make the most sense, according to the Observer, as would Nakamura winning the title in his home country.
Also, several of the matches at Takeover had last minute changes. While this isn’t confirmed, it’s believed that it could have been the tag matches, since there were plans for The Revival vs TM-61 on the Australia tour.
