AEW vs. NXT Week 21 Viewership Update

As noted before, the February 19th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT resulted in Dynamite generating around 893,000 viewers on TNT and a #5 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT generated around 794,000 viewers on USA Network and a #16 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

While the quarter-hour breakdowns were unavailable at the time, Dave Meltzer provided an update in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that featured the quarter-hour breakdowns and other details regarding last week’s episodes.

Meltzer reported that when only counting the two hours both shows went head-to-head against each other, Dynamite drew 893,000 viewers and NXT drew 788,000 viewers. Meltzer also reported that AEW won seven out of the eight quarter-hours.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 882,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Jon Moxley vs. Jeff Cobb match which gained 177,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Cody vs. Wardlow cage match video packages which lost 83,000 viewers.

NXT started off with around 799,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the BroserWeights vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch tag team match which gained 61,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Keith Lee vs. Kona Reeves match and Lee’s post-match promo with Dominik Dijakovic segment which lost 56,000 viewers. NXT’s over-run gained an additional 196,000 viewers to end the night.


More on AEW vs. NXT Week 22 Viewership

The February 26th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw both shows decline in viewership but AEW maintaining their advantage over NXT in both overall viewership and key demographic rankings.

AEW Dynamite drew 865,000 viewers on TNT and a #9 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 717,000 viewers on USA Network and a #17 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

This week’s episodes were notable for being the first time ever that AEW managed to outperform NXT in the over 50 demographic group. AEW drew a 0.36 rating and NXT drew a 0.34 rating for that demographic group.

The results of the quarter-hour segment breakdowns were not revealed in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter but Dave Meltzer reported that AEW’s biggest declines in viewership were with the Male 18-49 and teenagers demographic groups while their biggest gains was with the Female 18-49 demographic group. Meltzer reported that NXT’s biggest decline of the night were with the Female 18-49 and teenagers demographic groups while their biggest gains was with the Male 18-49 demographic group.

Meltzer speculated that this week’s NXT over-run numbers likely were lower than usual due to TNT airing a Countdown to Revolution television special that very likely impacted the usual show ending migration of AEW viewers to NXT.


Canadian Viewership for AEW’s Feb. 19 Show

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the February 19th episode of AEW Dynamite drew 115,500 viewers on TSN in Canada. Meltzer reported that this was AEW Dynamite’s highest viewership in Canada for the year so far.
