WWE Holding Triple H’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations on SmackDown Later This Month

During this past Friday’s episode of SmackDown on FOX, WWE aired an advertisement for a Triple H anniversary celebration special that take place on the April 24th episode of SmackDown.

This celebration will be honoring the 25th anniversary of Triple H’s debut with the company, which officially took place on the April 30, 1995 episode of WWF Wrestling Challenge.

No other details were revealed by WWE as of Saturday evening.


AEW Double or Nothing 2020 Status Update

The host venue of AEW’s Double or Nothing 2020 event, MGM Grand Garden Arena, reportedly has recently suspended all operations and cancelled all events at their venue until May 31st, according to Las Vegas Locally. This decision currently puts in doubt the status of AEW’s Double or Nothing 2020 event, which is scheduled to take place on May 23rd at the venue.

Despite the recent shutdown, MGM Grand’s website still has the event listed on their website on its scheduled date.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that ticket sales for AEW’s pay-per-view event were around 1,500 shy of reaching sold out status as of last month. Due to growing coronavirus outbreak concerns, it is doubtful that many more tickets have been sold in recent weeks.


Misc. Wrestling News & Notes

CMLL officials reportedly recently informed their talent that the company is currently hoping to be able to resume events in Mexico at some point next month, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

As noted before, ROH announced that Rey Horus had recently signed an official contract with the company. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Konnan stated that Horus’ signing with ROH will not affect his current status with Lucha Libre AAA unless Horus also accepts bookings with New Japan Pro Wrestling due to their relationship with CMLL.

The current feeling within the Japanese wrestling scene regarding WWE’s plans to launch NXT Japan reportedly have gotten worse this past week, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Dave Meltzer reported that due to the growing financial hit from the coronavirus outbreak in the country, promotions that were once unwilling to sell with WWE likely are now more receptive should an offer be made. Meltzer also reported that WWE’s chances of establishing a strong foothold in the country are now significantly better than before.
