The “Wednesday night war” may be coming to an end soon, with NXT reportedly set to move to Tuesdays starting next month.
Word is that WWE, USA and NBC plan to move NXT to Tuesday nights starting on April 13. The news was first reported by the Mat Men Wrestling Podcast, who said, “Hearing from a very reliable source that NXT will be moving to Tuesdays starting 4/13. Should be announced fairly soon.”
Dave Meltzer has also confirmed the news, saying that there have been rumblings of this since around February 24, but said that he doesn’t know if the move has been finalized yet, but if not, it’s very close.
Mat Men added that “NBC told staff this week” about the move.
In January, it was announced that NBC Sports Network would be shutting down and NHL and NASCAR content that aired there would move over to the USA Network some time this year. NHL games often air on NBCSN on Wednesday nights, which raised questions about the potential of NXT being moved or pre-empted frequently on Wednesdays.
With a move to Tuesdays, NXT would now go head to head with Impact, which airs on Tuesdays from 8-10 PM ET.
The last time AEW Dynamite aired in its normal time slot unopposed by NXT (September 10, 2020), it drew 1,016,000 viewers, its highest number since its first two shows.
