More on AEW vs. NXT Week 78 Viewership

The March 31st episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw both shows suffer a decline in viewership, Dynamite suffering a decline in key demographic ratings, and NXT gaining a sizeable increase in key demographic ratings. AEW continued their advantage over NXT in regards to key demographic viewership.

AEW drew 700,000 viewers and a #7 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 654,000 and a #12 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT’s key demographic ranking for this week’s show was their highest since the debut of AEW Dynamite. Meltzer also reported that this week’s NXT show benefited a lot from key demographic interest, especially in the 18-34 group, in WWE programming being at its highest point of the year due to WrestleMania season.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW reportedly had 341,000 viewers while NXT had 267,000 viewers. AEW’s sole increase was with their Females 18-34 group at 5.7% higher and their biggest decrease was their Females 35-49 group at 19.7% lower than last week’s show. All four of NXT’s key demographic groups were up with their biggest increase being their Males 18-34 group at 78.8% higher than last week’s show. Meltzer reported that NXT managed to top AEW in three key demographic groups, which were the 18-34, Males 18-34, and Females 35-49 groups. AEW’s show reportedly skewed the youngest for sports programming for the week.

In terms of quarter-hour viewership, AEW reportedly won five out of the eight quarters for overall viewership and all eight quarters for key demographic viewership. NXT reportedly won the fourth, fifth, and seventh quarters for overall viewership.

In terms of the main event quarter, AEW reportedly had 717,000 for overall viewership and 332,000 for key demographic viewership for the Arcade Anarchy match. NXT reportedly had 596,000 for overall viewership and 248,000 for key demographic viewership for the Gauntlet Eliminator Qualifying Battle Royal match.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 2.2% in overall viewership and up 13.7% in key demographic viewership compared to the same week last year. NXT was up 10.8% in overall viewership and up 17.1% in key demographic viewership compared to the same week last year.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 844,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Arcade Anarchy match of Kip Sabian & Miro vs. Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy which gained 106,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the ending of the Christian Cage vs. Frankie Kazarian match, the Sting & Darby Allin vignette, the Jade Cargill promo segment, and start of the Cody Rhodes vs. QT Marshall match which lost 99,000 viewers.

WWE NXT started off with around 678,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Raquel Gonzalez & Io Shirai brawl segment and the Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell vs. Gigi Dolin & Zada Ramier match and post-match stuff with Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart which gained 29,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Karrion Kross video segment, the WALTER video package, the Santos Escobar pre-match promo segment, and the start of Escobar vs. Tyler Breeze match which lost 47,000 viewers. NXT’s overrun gained an additional 103,000 viewers to end the night.
