Charlotte Flair on Criticisms Over Her Booking, Upcoming Match with Becky Lynch, & Four Horsewomen

BT Sport held a recent interview with Charlotte Flair. Some of the topics discussed included her thoughts about the online criticisms over her booking and constantly being in the spotlight, upcoming match with Becky Lynch, and WWE’s Four Horsewomen.

On the topic of the criticisms over her booking and constantly being a champion in WWE, Flair stated:

“Because I didn’t come this far to come this far. There’s a reason I’ve been on top since 2015. It wasn’t handed to me, it wasn’t given to me. This didn’t fall into my lap. It’s because I’m always hungry, I’m always motivated. I always want more, I always wanna be better. I always wanna be the best.”

Flair also stated that she feels her confidence level does rub people the wrong way but questions if she would be receiving this same level of backlash over constantly being a champion and in the spotlight if she was not a woman.

“Yes, it obviously does rub people the wrong way [her confidence]. But if I was a man, would it rub people the wrong way? I mean no one ever looks at a man and goes, ‘Why does he want to be the world champion again? He’s been on top all these years.’ Is it because I’m a woman? Because I’ve done it all? Because we have a smaller division? Why? What? Charlotte’s difficult? It is because I stand up for what I believe in? That makes me difficult? But if I was a man I’d have big balls, right? No. I know how good I am, man or woman, I’m the best.

No but really, it is because I’m a woman? That’s what — so I’m just supposed to come this far to come this far and be like, ‘Yup, all right. Take my spot. All these years of hard work, please, just take it.’ No. If you’re gonna take it, take it. But you’re gonna have to take it from me.”

On the topic of her upcoming mach against Becky Lynch at this Sunday’s Survivor Series 2021 event, Flair stated:

“I think it’s gonna be something special [match with Becky Lynch at Survivor Series]. You have two women at the top of their game, at the top of their business that believe they’re the best and when you see both of them believe that in themselves and to watch that on camera, I think it’s gonna be something special.”

On the topic of the Four Horsewomen, Flair stated:

“It’s an unspoken bond. Our careers have all taken different turns and ended up in different spots at different times. The level of respect is always there, no matter what. You just don’t… maybe we should talk about it more, but we all know how we feel about each other, what we did and what it took and how hard we worked to get where we are.

Speaking specifically of her relationship with Sasha Banks, Charlotte would say that she and Sasha are forever in a competition of wanting to be the greatest and they both understand the business and their own goals on a different level.

Of course, she and Sasha Banks were the first major rivalry for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship following the original draft in 2016 and they would go on to have the first ever women’s Hell in a Cell match and compete in the first-ever women’s Iron Man match on an official WWE pay-per-view.

We know who we are. Night and day. We understand the business a little bit more, and our goals. There’s so much that goes into it.We’re both extremely competitive. So, when we’re in the ring together and I know there’s just a whole level of competition of wanting to be the greatest. You just push each other that much more.”
