Kevin Owens Comments on Lack of WWE Talent Sending Tribute Videos for ROH’s Final Battle 2021 Event

A recent episode of the Les Anti-Pods de la Lutte podcast had Kevin Owens as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Owens claiming that Ring of Honor never contacted any WWE talent to send tribute videos for their Final Battle 2021 event earlier this month.

“The answer is quite simple: Ring of Honor didn’t ask any wrestlers from WWE to do that, nor contacted anyone at WWE. I knew it was going to be their last show, but I didn’t think to send a video so they could play it at the show. I’ve watched it. I was at a WWE show, and I was watching it on my phone, so it was not something I simply ignored. I’ve read some people on the Internet saying that probably WWE didn’t let us do it, but that’s incorrect. It’s just ROH who didn’t ask us, and I bet that if they had, we could have done it, but that wasn’t the case.”

Owens’ statements contradict earlier claims from ROH’s Kevin Eck and former owner Cary Silkin who stated that WWE was uncooperative compared to other companies who allowed their talent to work and send videos for the event.

Eck stated in a recent Eck’s File article that “It was very classy of AEW and Impact Wrestling to allow their talent to appear at Final Battle and send in video tributes. If only every major wrestling company was as classy.”

Silkin stated in a recent interview with the Last Stop Penn Station podcast that WWE was unwilling to allow their talent to participate with videos for ROH’s event.

“I’m sorry, you know what really sucks? Although — Adam Pearce made a really nice tribute and even a YouTube video but, and he’s — you know, WWE doesn’t allow these guys to do that and you know, so at the show, if you saw the show… I was wondering about [Colt] Cabana.

But yeah, if you haven’t seen the broadcast yet, there’s some very nice tributes from Bryan Danielson, Eddie Edwards, CM Punk, Adam Page, Adam Cole, Jimmy Jacobs, always a princess, and The [Young] Bucks.

You know, guys like Kevin Steen, Kevin Owens [helped shape Ring of Honor]

You know how rare it is to get a phone call anymore? I got some nice phone calls from — I got one from Cabana, I got one from Kyle O’Reilly and who else? Someone else in there, couple other in there and I got a bunch of messages from The Bucks, they watched the show. Jimmy Jacobs, number of people. It was also nice to see Prince Nana, who by the way, it was cool that he was on AEW. Good for Nana.”
