AEW: Canada Debut Update, Matt Jackson Injury Update, Goldberg on Wardlow Comparisons to Him

AEW’s Canada Debut Plans Update

As noted before, AEW CEO Tony Khan stated in a recent interview with the My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox podcast that he is currently hopeful of AEW making their official debut in Canada at some point next year.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that AEW officials recently started working on potential plans to hold their first Canadian event in Toronto. Meltzer reported that the potential date nor location for this event is currently not known.

Meltzer speculated that two potential locations could be the Rogers Centre if AEW’s debut in the country was for a pay-per-view event and the Scotiabank Arena for either a PPV event or regular Dynamite/Rampage show.

Matt Jackson Injury Status Update

As noted before, Matt Jackson suffered a stinger injury during the AEW World Tag Team Champiosnhip Triple or Nothing match on the July 13th AEW Dynamite Fyter Fest 2022 Week 1 show.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Jackson recently informed others that he has been feeling better since his injury. Jackson also stated that he did not suffer any loss of strength and his mobility and range of motion has returned back to normal.

Meltzer reported that his sources stated that Jackson had passed a strength test after his injury which alleviated concerns from AEW officials that he had suffered a potential major injury. Despite the passed test, Jackson reportedly was feeling very sore and AEW officials currently expect him to be out of action for the next few weeks.

Goldberg Comments on Wardlow’s Stardom Rise in AEW Being Compared to Him

A recent episode of the WrestleRant Radio podcast had Goldberg as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Goldberg’s thoughts on people’s comparisons of Wardlow’s stardom rise in AEW to his own rise in WCW.

“I understand the comparisons. I’ve heard of him for sure. I’ve seen pictures of him. I haven’t seen him work that much. But, hey, man, more power to him. There needs to be more characters like that. There needs to be serious intensity out there. There’s people that slice meat and there’s people that eat meat and he needs to be eating meat — now Big E is going to come into it. But yeah, man , I don’t know. I’ve never read anything about a comparison from him and how he passes judgment on it. But at the end of the day, anybody that’s close to the top in their prospective business to be compared with myself. That’s an honor and a privilege.”
