WWE: Netflix Reportedly Still Working on Vince McMahon Series, More NXT Call-ups Planned, IYO SKY

Netflix Reportedly Still Working on New Vince McMahon Series

As noted before, Netflix was rumored to have cancelled production on an upcoming new docuseries based on former WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon. The series was rumored to have been dropped following the revelation of McMahon’s sexual misconduct allegations in WWE.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that this project was not officially cancelled and instead production is still going forward for this upcoming new series. Meltzer reported that Chris Smith is currently the director and executive producer of this upcoming series.

Meltzer also reported that Netflix’s upcoming series is one of at least two major documentaries based on McMahon’s life that is currently in production.

WWE Planning More NXT Call-ups for Their Main Roster

As noted before, NXT talent Solo Sikoa is currently expected to be called up from WWE’s NXT brand and make his official main roster debut as early as next month.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that besides Sikoa, WWE officials are also currently planning to call up Indi Hartwell and the entire Legado Del Fantasma stable (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Cruz Del Toro, and Elektra Lopez). These same sources also stated that WWE officials currently do not have an exact date nor time frame in place for these planned call-ups.

IYO SKY Comments on Her Recent Ankle Injury & WWE Ring Name Change

Tokyo Sports held a recent interview with IYO SKY. One of the topics discussed included SKY’s thoughts on her ankle injury this past April in NXT.

“When I flew in a moonsault outside the ring against Kay Lee Ray, I hit my foot on the announcer’s table and broke my right ankle and had to have surgery. I was referred to a “master ankle surgeon” in Alabama, who is a WWE official. Now I have one bolt in to hold the bone in place. I was unable to put any weight on my right leg for about a month, and I had to use a crutch and a wheelchair. It took me about three months to be able to put my full weight on it.”

SKY also gave her thoughts about her ring name change as part of her recent call-up to WWE’s main roster for their RAW brand.

“I think the image of the previous “Shirai” can be conveyed in kanji to Japanese people, but that is not the case in the United States. I think it is a good name because the “sky” in it conveys the image. The first letter of “Io” was capitalized and the second letter was lower-case “Io. So it looked like a lowercase L and O (lo), or like a number, and some people misread it. Now it’s all capitalized “IYO,” which I think makes it easier to understand.”
