More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for January 18th

The January 18th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a slight increase in overall viewership but also suffered a slight decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 969,000 viewers and a 0.31 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 3rd place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s mixed results this week was due to the large declines from their younger male key demographic viewership and younger key demographic viewership groups, which were down 20.4% and 12.2% respectively compared to last week’s show. This reportedly mostly offset the gains from their older female key demographic viewership and Over 50 viewership groups, which were up 11.4% and 2.4% respectively compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Atlanta Hawks vs. Dallas Mavericks drew 1,219,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Auburn vs. LSU drew 257,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College basketball game of Virginia Tech vs. Virginia drew 175,000 viewers on ESPNU, the NHL game of Boston Bruins vs. New York Islanders drew 280,000 viewers on TNT, Sistas Series drew 986,000 viewers on BET, and Challenge: Ride or Dies drew 637,000 viewers on MTV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 402,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 78,000 viewers (down 20.4%), Females 18-34 had 73,000 viewers (down 1.4%), Males 35-49 had 173,000 viewers (down 7%), and Females 35-49 had 78,000 viewers (up 11.4%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 251,000 male viewers and 151,000 female viewers for a split of 62.4% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, one of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 1,197,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 853,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 6.1% in overall viewership and down 29.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 21.8% compared to the same week last year.

  • 2Q – 976,000 overall viewers and 405,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Young Bucks vs. Top Flight match)
  • 3Q – 993,000 overall viewers and 403,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Young Bucks vs. Top Flight match, the Gunns, Acclaimed, & Billy Gunn promo segment, and the Hangman Adam Page backstage interview segment)
  • 4Q – 971,000 overall viewers and 401,000 key demo viewers (Jake Hager vs. Ricky Starks match, the Adam Cole video segment, the JAS backstage promo segment, and the start of the Bryan Danielson vs. Bandido match)
  • 5Q – 975,000 overall viewers and 419,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Danielson vs. Bandido match)
  • 6Q – 923,000 overall viewers and 411,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Danielson vs. Bandido match and post-match MJF promo segment, the Saraya, Toni Storm, & Hikaru Shida backstage promo segment, the MJF, Prince Nana, & Brian Cage backstage segment, and the start of the Storm vs. Willow Nightingale match)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for January 13th

The January 13th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a small decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic ratings but gained a small increase in key demographic rankings.

AEW Rampage drew 513,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that week’s show was 24th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the very large decline suffered from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 45.5% compared to the prior week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the decline from their Over 50 viewership group, which was down 7.1% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the gain from their Teenagers viewership and older key demographic viewership groups, which were up 20% and 5.3% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Golden State Warriors vs. San Antonio Spurs drew 1,358,000 viewers on ESPN, the NBA game of Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers drew 1,114,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of VCU vs. Dayton drew 134,000 viewers on ESPN2, On Patrol Live drew 824,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 752,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 170,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 104,000 male viewers and 66,000 female viewers for a split of 61.2% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage show did not rank in the Top 10 youngest skewing sports show for the week while that week’s Dynamite was the ninth youngest skewed sports show, behind four NBA games, two English Premier League soccer games, and one NHL game.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 2.5% in overall viewership and down 13.3% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 45.5% compared to the same week last year.

  • 2Q – 493,000 overall viewers and 178,000 key demo viewers (The Acclaimed, The Gunns, & Billy Gun promo segment, the Mogul Affiliates backstage interview segment, and the first half of the Eddie Kingston & Ortiz vs. House of Black match)
  • 3Q – 497,000 overall viewers and 160,000 key demo viewers (Second half of the Kingston & Ortiz vs. House of Black match, the Baddies backstage interview segment, and the Paul Walter Hauser, Danhausen, Best Friends, Orange Cassidy, Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, & Satnam Singh promo and attack segment)
  • 4Q – 524,000 overall viewers and 161,000 key demo viewers (Street Fight match of TayJay vs. Ruby Soho & Willow Nightingale)
