Maria Kanellis Underwent Thyroid Surgery

Maria Kanellis announced on Instagram that she recently underwent thyroid surgery to resolve health issues she had been dealing with for the past two and a half years.

Kanellis stated that she was unable to properly address her health situation beforehand due issues involving her having children, the COVID-19 pandemic, and being fired/released from multiple companies. Kanellis also stated that her doctors had warned her that the cells could become cancerous or cause heart-related issues if left untreated.

Today I am getting thyroid surgery to remove half my thyroid which includes a nodule. I’ve been have symptoms for the past 2 and a half years. Heart racing, trouble with weight loss, skin changes, exhaustion, mood changes, sore throat, anxiety, period changes, raspy voice, trouble swallowing, brain fog, calcium deficiency, amongst others. But, with having 2 kids, the Pandemic, and multiple times being fired I just didn’t have the time to really focus on it. Now, my doctor has told me that there are abnormal cells which could turn cancerous and a possibility of causing afib, which is a heart condition. So, with the full support of @aew, it’s time. Thank you to @tonyrkhan, Megha, and CD for the support!! And of course thank you to my wonderful husband @therealmichaelbennett and my amazing mother for helping us through this time!! Recovery is supposed to be about 2 weeks for the incision and about a year for the hormones to balance. I can work after 2 weeks with no restrictions. I will keep you all posted…

Here is a photo pre-thyroid surgery scar. Hahaha…

Willow Nightingale Comments on Being Interested in Idea of Women’s Tag Team Titles in AEW

A recent episode of the Excuse Me: The Vickie Guerrero Show podcast featured Willow Nightingale as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Nightingale’s thoughts on her current goals in AEW and her level of interest in a potential AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship.

“We don’t necessarily a tag championship. We have tag teams within our women’s division, but I think personally, working with Ruby, I think having there be an official tag division or some sort of physical goal to work towards, be it a championship or some kind of trophy or medal, because I know they had done the tag team tournament in the past, I think that would be a really awesome direction to take the women’s division in. I love the fact that we have two championships in the women’s division as is, with the AEW Women’s World Champion and the TBS Champion, but I think a tag championship would be really awesome because I’d love to continue working with Ruby and really kind of finding our own little groove as a tag. But I’ve wrestled Jade twice for the TBS Championship, and I think a third time’s the charm, maybe? Could be fun, personally. But those are kind of the things that when I go in and I try to think about my future, where I see myself going, but every day is a surprise at AEW, so we never know [laughs] …

I’m sure you know better than most people, working so closely with Nyla [Rose] and Marina [Shafir]. Having great matches is fun and fulfilling, but sometimes it feels a little bit like, where do we go from here? What’s the next step? Having that kind of direction, a very physical thing to look at and go, ‘That’s the direction,’ sometimes just helps put everything into perspective for everyone.”
