As noted before, AEW is currently expected to officially announce next week that they have signed a new television deal with Warner Bros Discovery. This new deal is expected to involve the official debut of AEW’s new television series called Collision and also involve the upcoming return of CM Punk.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that the debut show of AEW’s upcoming new Collision television series will be named “The Second Coming.” This would be the second time that an AEW show would feature a tagline related to CM Punk, first being the August 20, 2021 AEW Rampage show that was titled “The First Dance” for Punk’s official AEW debut.
In regards to the backstage situation between CM Punk and The Elite, Meltzer reported that nothing has changed over the status between both sides as of this week. Meltzer also reported that there are still a number of different legal issues on-going from this past September’s infamous All Out 2022 backstage brawl and nobody is allowed to publicly talk, contact the other side, or talk about any of the issues related to this brawl.
In an interesting note, Meltzer reported that one source spoken to stated that at least one person was willing to apologize over their role in the incident but is legally not allowed to make any contact. Meltzer reported that this mystery person is not Punk based on this same source. Another person spoken to reportedly stated that they believe that apologizes are in order over the matter but that Punk should be the first one to do so. This same person reportedly also stated that Punk also would not be the only person needing to apologize.
In regards to Punk’s importance for AEW’s new television deal for Collision, Meltzer reported that one source spoken to stated that AEW’s TV deal for Collision would have still happened even without Punk but Warner Bros Discovery officials really wanted Punk back for this new show.
In regards to the issues between CM Punk and Colt Cabana and Cabana’s future status, Meltzer reported that Cabana has mostly worked as a producer for Ring of Honor. Meltzer stated that one possible solution to Punk’s issues with Cabana would be for AEW to move Cabana to a similar backstage role for Dynamite and Rampage and have him work on Wednesdays. The reason for the move would be due to AEW’s current plans to hold ROH TV tapings alongside Collision for their Saturdays tapings schedule.
