  • During Saturday’s Money in the Bank 2023 post-show press conference, Cody Rhodes gave his thoughts on winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship would not count towards his “finishing the story” storyline. Rhodes stated “I don’t want to be a downer, but no. Winning the World Heavyweight Championship would be outstanding. It would be amazing. It is the title on the flagship show, Monday Night Raw. It absolutely matters and is important. What Seth is doing with it is a special thing and you’re going to see, that title will mean far more in five minutes and ten minutes. Every second, it gains equity. Finishing the story was always about the title that my dad didn’t get. I’m not going to spoil anything because the Peacock people will murder me. You’ll probably hear some news about my documentary sometime soon. Finally, these people have been filming me for gosh knows how long. It’s covered a lot in there as far as, that’s what the story was. He really did hold it, he held it in the Garden, and it ate me up that he never got it. That’s finishing the story. The World Heavyweight Championship is a whole other story. Very special, the main title on Monday Night Raw. I don’t look down on it in any way.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
  • In a recent interview with the WWE After The Bell with Corey Graves podcast, Finn Balor gave his thoughts about how his current heel run in WWE has “reinvigorated him” on a personal level. Balor stated “I feel like it’s reinvigorated me on a personal level. I don’t really wanna speak too much from a professional level, I haven’t really completed that stage of the journey yet. I feel personally that I’m back enjoying my work, I feel refreshed. I feel invigorated. I feel creative again, and it’s something that I haven’t really had the chance to fully explore this type of character on Raw or SmackDown. It’s something I wanted to really do on a second run in NXT, but when we lost interaction with the crowd, we kinda had to tweak and adjust course to change the character because of no audience in the arena. This is the version of the Prince that I wanted to deliver in NXT three years ago. This has been the goal since I’ve first put on a pair of wrestling boots. I was born to be a heel and when I started this at eighteen years old, I was a heel for years upon years. It wasn’t till I came to NXT during my first run, that I started to learn or taught how to be a babyface and it was something that was very much a WWE directive, that’s how they saw me. That’s not really how I see myself, so it’s been very much an exploratory couple months for me, kinda getting back to what I feel I do best, or at least what makes me happiest in the ring. I don’t know if it’s what I do best, but it’s what I enjoy the most. I’ve really thrived personally in the last couple of months as well.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
  • As noted before, Trinity, formerly known as Naomi, left WWE this past March and joined Impact Wrestling this past April. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Jimmy Uso gave his thoughts about his wife’s departure from WWE and them working in different companies. Uso stated “It’s been weird. We’ve been on the road together since we first started our WWE career. For 12 years and then all of a sudden [done]. When that happened, it came to a complete stop, a schedule change and then not seeing her much with our schedule and what she’s doing, it’s been an adjustment, but we make it happen and make it work. She’s having a blast, moving at her own pace, which is something we never really get to do. She’s enjoying it and doing what she’s wanted to do; broadway, music, more acting.” Uso also gave his thoughts on if he was ever worried about his position in WWE following his wife’s departure. Uso stated “I was never really worried about myself. Just mainly her. Making sure everything is okay. I was never worried about myself. It wasn’t even about me. I just wanted to make sure everything was good. That day, I was super busy, I had a match and then when I came in the back, she left. It was already boiling then. Then we found out everything.” Uso also gave his thoughts about if he would like to see Trinity return to WWE in the future. Uso stated “Of course, even she would like to comeback. At the end of the day, we started our career here at WWE and in a perfect world, we’d like to finish here in WWE. She is definitely open to coming back and when the timing is right and everything fits, hopefully, it works.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
  • In a recent interview with Love Wrestling Interviews, Kevin Owens gave his thoughts about him being currently unsure of he would like to win the Intercontinental Championship again due to the record he shares with Owen Hart. Owens stated “It means a lot, and it’s funny because I’d love to win the Intercontinental Title back, but I also don’t want to win it back because I don’t want to break that similarity. I want to share that with Owen, so it’s a real conflicting feeling, but it’s really cool to have that, for sure. For me, I think a lot of it happened when I first started watching wrestling, WrestleMania 11 was the first tape I watched with my dad, and then I started going backwards and watching the shows before that that I’d missed, and I watched Royal Rumble, and Bret Hart was wrestling Diesel for the title, and at one point in the match, I knew the backstory of Bret being the older brother, Owen being the younger brother. I was the younger brother, my brother was ten years older than me, and of course, with that dynamic, my brother was stronger, faster, everything. If we got into an argument, obviously my brother would win. If we got into a tussle, Mr brother would win. It was like the little brother complex. When I saw Bret in that match try to cheat, he tried to use cables to wrap them around Diesel’s legs, and I, at that point, was a kid with a lot of morals, and I couldn’t believe that Bret Hart would be cheating. What the hell is that? Then Owen came out to try and stop him. Of course, at the time, I didn’t know that the dynamics of the story with the bad guy, the good guy, who did what. I just knew that Owen Hart, the valiant younger brother, was trying to stop his older brother from cheating. So I immediately latched onto Owen as being, ‘He’s me, he’s just like, and Bret’s like my big brother.’ That was it for me, man. Beyond that, Owen was an absolutely incredible competitor, a great character, entertaining as hell, so obviously he had all the qualities for me to become a huge fan right from the get-go, and he had the younger brother similarity with me, so that sealed the deal.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

Meltzer reported that WWE officials have kept their plans a secret for the Creed Bros with some people being told that it is only an angle and not an actual call-up to the main roster. • The past several weeks of WWE shows have been notable for WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon’s heavy handed involvement in regards to major late changes being made to the scripts and original plans. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that McMahon is fully aware that everyone in WWE had operated for months under the assumption that he would never come back after his resignation. Meltzer reported that McMahon did not get any major support within WWE when he had first announced that he would be coming back in a position of power and this only changed after he made it clear that he was coming back. In regards to McMahon resuming his habit of last minute changes to WWE creative plans for shows, one source spoken to reportedly stated “He believes in what he says. Is he wrong all the time? No. Actually he’s not. He’s actually got better input than most would believe. Is it all good? No, he’s stuck on certain mindsets that are long gone, and it could be damaging. It’s not the interference itself that is the problem. It’s how and when he does it.” This same source reportedly stated that this would not be an issue if McMahon was doing major changes to plans a day or more prior to a show but it is his habit of doing them only hours before a start of a show has caused everything to be thrown into chaos backstage.
  • Fightful Select reported that several talent spoken to stated that they still pay out of pocket for their own hotels, rental cars, and flights for regular event but WWE covers those costs when it comes to big events and media-related work.

  • In a recent interview with the AEW Unrestricted podcast, AEW Senior Vice President Nik Sobic gave his thoughts on when the idea for AEW’s Fight Forever video game was pitched. Sobic stated “On day one, Tony Khan creates AEW. On day two, Tony Khan creates AEW Fight Forever. It’s very close to the truth. I was the first employee to AEW. On day one, we pumped a bunch of money into this company to get it off the ground. On day two, we had the nerve to go back and ask him for another pile of money to make this video game. The nice thing about Tony is that he’s not a super emotional thinker. He’s a super strategic, data and high-level thinker. We just presented our case. We said, ‘we think there is a gap in the market for a game like this. AEW’s audience loves video games. You look at social media sentiment and the type of game people have been asking for, this is like 20 years in the making. People have been waiting for this for a long time.’ It was a pretty easy pitch. It was a successful pitch because three and a half years later, we have a video game ready to go.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

Meltzer also reported that Nielsen was well known for never being fond of their ratings data being released to the public to the extent done by ShowBuzz Daily and other ratings tracking websites. Meltzer speculated that it could be possible that other ratings tracking websites could also shut down in the near future over this issue. Meltzer reported that ShowBuzz Daily’s Mitch Salem’s issues with Nielsen’s lack of ratings tracking with streaming services being one reason for the website’s closure only brings up another issue of streaming viewership being a lot more fractured than television viewership. Meltzer reported that streaming service providers are a lot more protective and secretive when it comes to sharing their viewership data unlike linear television providers.

The issue reportedly revolved around Metalik’s papers being cleared prior to the event and had returned to Mexico making his an official CMLL talent. This reportedly led to Metalik informing GCW officials that he was not allowed to lose the mach despite the original plans were for Vikingo, who is an AAA talent, to beat Metalik.
