More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for August 23rd

The August 23rd episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a slight decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 870,000 viewers and a 0.32 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 4th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the tougher than usual competition from news coverage of the 2023 Republican Presidential debate and the large decline from their younger female key demographic viewership group, which was down 35.6% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly was mostly offset by the large increase from their younger male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 30.5% and 21.1% respectively compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2023 Little League World Series game of California vs. Texas drew 1,461,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2023 Republican Presidential Debate drew 11,062,000 viewers on Fox News, Countdown to the Debate drew 3,729,000 viewers on Fox News, and Real Housewives of Orange County drew 744,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 422,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 107,000 viewers (up 30.5%), Females 18-34 was 47,000 viewers (down 35.6%), Males 35-49 was 177,000 viewers (down 2.2%), and Females 35-49 was 92,000 viewers (up 21.1%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 284,000 male viewers and 139,000 female viewers for a split of 67.3% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 981,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 759,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 17% in overall viewership and down 5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was equal compared to the same week last year.

  • 4Q – 899,000 overall viewers and 441,000 key demo viewers (Chris Jericho, Will Ospreay, & Don Callis in-ring segment and the Adam Cole backstage interview segment)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for August 18th

The August 18th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a small increase in overall viewership but suffered a small decline in key demographic rankings and a slight decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 416,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 13th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s mixed results was due to the large increase from their older female key demographic viewership, which was up 37.5% compared to the prior week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large increase from their Over 50 viewership group, which did not have its percentage given. This mostly offset the declines from their younger key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were down 25% and 25.2% respectively compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NFL Total Access show drew 886,000 viewers on NFL Network, On Patrol Live drew 993,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and House Hunters drew 957,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 169,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 24,000 viewers (down 25%), Females 18-34 had 18,000 viewers (down 25%), AEW’s Males 35-49 had 107,000 viewers (up 25.2%), and Females 18-35 had 44,000 viewers (up 37.5%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 107,000 male viewers and 62,000 female viewers for a split of 63.9% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 9.3% in overall viewership but up 3.7% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 25% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 486,000 overall viewers and 196,000 key demo viewers (Rey Fenix vs. Komander match)
  • 2Q – 390,000 overall viewers and 162,000 key demo viewers (Britt Baker backstage interview segment, the QT Marshall video package segment, the Johnny TV video promo segment, and the bulk of the Aussie Open vs. Ethan Page & Brother Zay tag team match)
  • 3Q – 394,000 overall viewers and 161,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Aussie Open vs. Page & Zay tag team match, the post-match Aussie Open promo segment, The Righteous video promo segment, the Hardys video promo segment, the Sammy Guevara vs. Jon Cruz match, and the Nyla Rose video promo segment)
  • 4Q – 395,000 overall viewers and 159,000 key demo viewers (Hikaru Shida & Skye Blue vs. The Outcasts tag team match & post-match brawl with Saraya & Britt Baker)

The August 19th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a slight increase in overall viewership but suffered a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 482,000 viewers and a 0.17 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 13th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s gains that week was due to the small increase from their younger male key demographic viewership group, which was up 3.8% compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the small decline from their older male key demographic viewership group, which was down 1.8% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NFL Preseason game of Chicago Bears vs. Indianapolis Colts drew 1,561,000 viewers on NFL Network, the UFC Prelims drew 1,235,000 viewers on ESPN, and On Patrol Live drew 872,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 223,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 54,000 viewers (up 3.8%), Females 18-34 had 23,000 viewers (equal), Males 35-49 had 110,000 viewers (down 1.8%), and Females 35-49 had 36,000 viewers (equal). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 164,000 male viewers and 59,000 female viewers for a split of 73.5% in favor of males.
