Drew McIntyre Comments on Future of His Career & Update on McIntyre’s Contract Status

The Hindustan Times held a recent interview with Drew McIntyre. One of the topics discussed included McIntyre’s thoughts on his current contract status and the future of his wrestling career.

“I mean, I keep reading the internet myself. I just saw something earlier. The internet keeps talking about my future, I guess. But my focus is on the here and now like I don’t look to the future, I don’t look to the past, I look to the present. And my job right now is just making sure we give everybody in Hyderabad the best show possible and I’ll continue to give the best performance I can give at every show and I can see I don’t plan to be anywhere else. That’s as much as I can give.”

In regards to the status of McIntyre’s current contract, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that WWE officials had recently added time to McIntyre’s current contract to make up for the several months McIntyre took off from wrestling earlier this year. Johnson reported that McIntyre’s contract is currently now set to expire until around next year’s WrestleMania 40 event.

Johnson reported that there has not been much movement in talks between McIntyre and WWE officials regarding a potential new contract. The reason reportedly is due to WWE officials have been more focused towards finalizing their sale deal to Endavor. WWE officials reportedly also have not been in any sort of a rush to sign McIntyre due to their still being plenty of time left in his currently deal.

More on NXT Viewership for September 5, 2023

The September 5th episode of WWE NXT saw NXT gain a large increase in overall viewership and a slight increase in key demographic ratings but also suffered a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

NXT drew 673,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating on USA Network. NXT’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.

Detailed viewership and key demographic breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reasons for NXT’s increases this week was due to the large gains from female key demographic viewership and Over 50 viewership groups. This reportedly offset the large decline from their male key demographic viewership group.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2023 US Open drew 1,639,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB game of San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago Cubs drew 377,000 viewers on TBS, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta drew 484,000 viewers on MTV, My Big Fate Fabulous Life drew 869,000 viewers on TLC, and Real Housewives of Salt Lake City drew 431,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 229,000 viewers. NXT’s Males 18-34 had 57,000 viewers (down 17.4%), Females 18-34 had 37,000 viewers (up 60.9%%), Males 35-49 had 83,000 viewers (down 17%), and Females 35-49 had 51,000 viewers (up 155%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 140,000 male viewers and 88,000 female viewers for a split of 61.1% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was down 1.6% in overall viewership but up 13.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that NXT’s 18-34 viewership was up 13.1% compared to the same week last year.
