AEW: Sting Retirement Plans Update, Tony Khan Announcement & New Match for Wed. Dynamite, Eddie Kingston on CM Punk

Sting Retirement Plans Update

As noted before, Sting announced this past October that he will be retiring from wrestling at AEW’s Revolution 2024 event.

Sports Illustrated held a recent interview with Sting. One of the topics discussed included Sting revealing that he was originally considering retiring from wrestling this December.

“I wanted to finish earlier, maybe in December. But now that Ric is here with me, I want to go longer, all the way to Revolution.”

Sting also gave his thoughts on Tony Khan’s retirement gift to him being a reunion moment with Ric Flair.

“I’ve been emotional, full of tears, twice in my career. The first was Panama City when Ric and I had the last WCW match on Nitro. The second was last week on Dynamite.

When Ric came out and I heard his music play, it hit me. I had this flashback, and it made me emotional. Ric is the guy who put me on the map. We’ve traveled around the world together, and Ric helped make me. Now he’s going to finish with me.

After all the travel, all the matches, all the press slams, all the chops, and all the woos–woooo!–I experienced the same feeling on Dynamite this past week with Ric that I did on that final Nitro. Except this time, it was so much more positive.”

Sting also gave his thoughts on his plans for the final months of his career.

“All I can say for now is I want people to walk away and say, ‘Wow, what an ending.’ I’ll be three weeks away from turning 65 at that point. I want to leave people with a memory that will mean something.”

Eddie Kingston Comments on Wished Things Worked Out Better Between CM Punk & AEW

Adrian Hernandez held a recent interview with Eddie Kingston. One of the topics discussed included Kingston’s thoughts about his promo to CM Punk on the November 15, 2021 episode of AEW Rampage and wishing things had worked out better between Punk and AEW.

“No (I don’t feel bad when people bring up my promo on CM Punk from 11/5/21 AEW Rampage). No, I’m doing my job. Then that’s how I felt. I didn’t know what anyone else in the locker room felt. I didn’t care, it’s how I felt, I didn’t want him there. Me and Punk don’t like each other and that’s fine. You’re not gonna like everybody you work with. Do I wish he was still in AEW and I wish it worked out differently? Yeah, because he helped the company. But, other than that, I don’t give a f*ck what he does, you know what I mean? (Kingston laughed) Because me and him never got along anyway. We don’t have to be best friends to fight each other. It makes it better when we’re not best friends, you know, when we have to fight each other. I don’t wish him bad but I don’t wish him good either because I don’t give a f*ck. That’s it.”
