WWE: MLW Lawsuit Settlement Amount Revealed, Injunction Filed to Prevent Release of 2023 Royal Rumble Bidding Contract, WWE 2K24 DLC Packs Content List

WWE Paid MLW $20 Million for Antitrust Lawsuit Settlement

As noted before, WWE reached a settlement deal with Major League Wrestling this past December to settle MLW’s antitrust lawsuit that had been filed against the company.

In a recent K-10 filing by TKO to the SEC as part of their earnings call on Tuesday, TKO revealed that WWE had paid MLW $20 million as part of the terms of their antitrust lawsuit settlement deal.

Portion of TKO’s K-10 filing:

On January 11, 2022, a complaint was filed against WWE by MLW Media LLC (‘MLW’), captioned MLW Media LLC v. World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., No. 5:22-cv-00179-EJD (N.D. Cal.), alleging that WWE interfered with MLW’s contractual relationship with certain media platforms and engaged in other anticompetitive and unfair business practices in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act and California law. On December 22, 2023, the parties notified the court that they had entered into a settlement agreement in the amount of $20.0 million and stipulated that the case should be voluntarily dismissed with prejudice. In light of the settlement, the case was dismissed with prejudice on December 26, 2023.

During Tuesday’s earnings call, TKO revealed in their 2023 fiscal fourth quarter and year report that they had spent $34.2 million in litigation costs for UFC and WWE for the fiscal year with $20 million covering WWE’s antitrust lawsuit legal costs.

WWE Files Injunction to Prevent Release of 2023 Royal Rumble Bidding Contract

Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston reported that WWE recently filed an injunction against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to prevent Paxton from releasing information regarding WWE’s bidding contract for the 2023 Royal Rumble event in San Antonio.

Thurston reported that this injunction was filed by WWE on February 16th and was targeted against a request he had made through the Texas Public Information Act for documents related to WWE’s bidding contract for last year’s event in San Antonio.

Thurston stated that he was seeking information to discover what the city of San Antonio had given to WWE in exchange for WWE holding last year’s Royal Rumble event in their city. Specially, Thurston stated he was seeking information regarding attendance, sales, and communications between the City and WWE for this deal.

In their filing, WWE claimed that their deal with the city was a sensitive trade secret for the company and exposure of this event contract “would benefit its competitors and hold independent economic value by being confidential.”
