More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for April 24th

The April 24th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership, a small decline in key demographic ratings, and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 683,000 viewers and a 0.23 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 6th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of stiff sports competition from the NHL and NBA Playoffs that night, a weaker than usual lead-in viewership from the Big Bang Theory, which drew 856,000 viewers and a 0.14 rating, and AEW’s West Coast feed airing both live and outside of primetime leads. Meltzer reported that this week’s show had the rare occurrence where the peak overall key demographic viewership and younger key demographic viewership took place in the final quarter of the show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 2 of Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics drew 2,856,000 viewers on TNT and 269,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 2 of New Orleans Pelicans vs. Oklahoma City Thunder drew 2,814,000 viewers on TNT and 208,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 3 of Boston Bruins vs. Toronto Maple Leafs drew 1,238,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 2 of Las Vegas Golden Knights vs. Dallas Stars drew 1,003,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of Miami vs. Atlanta and Oakland vs. New York Yankees drew 427,000 viewers on MLB Network, Survivor drew 4,914,000 viewers on CBS, My 600-LB Life drew 275,000 viewers on TLC, House Hunters Repack drew 622,000 viewers on Home & Garden TV, and Top Chef drew 540,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 309,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 62.1% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 792,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 607,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 20.9% in overall viewership and down 17.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 22.9% compared to the same week last year.

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for April 20th

The April 20th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a large increase in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings. That week’s show was notable for Rampage being preempted to a late Saturday night timeslot and aired as a live show due to TNT’s 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament commitments for that Friday night.

AEW drew 397,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 19th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the large gains from their overall key demographic viewership group, which was up 15.9% compared to the prior week’s show, and Over 50 viewership group, which its percentage was not given.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 1 of Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets drew 5,652,000 viewers on ABC, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 1 of Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins drew 877,000 viewers on TBS and 164,000 viewers on TruTV, the College Softball game of Alabama vs. Arkansas drew 569,000 viewers on ESPN, and On Patrol Live drew 790,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 168,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 20,000 viewers, Females 18-35 had 15,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 76,000 viewers and Females 35-49 had 46,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/females viewership split was 96,000 male viewers and 61,000 female viewers for a split of 57.1% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 7% in overall viewership and up 8.3% in key demographic viewership.

The April 20th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a small decline in key demographic rankings and a slight decline in overall viewership.

AEW drew 461,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 18th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that week was due to the declines from their younger male key demographic viewership, younger female key demographic viewership, and older make key demographic viewership groups, which were down 15%, 11.8%, and 1.1% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their older female key demographic viewership group, which was up 8.5% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 1 of Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets drew 5,652,000 viewers on ABC, the 2024 NBA Playoffs Game 1 of Philadelphia 76ers vs. New York Knicks drew 4,192,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2024 NHL Playoffs Game 1 of Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins drew 877,000 viewers on TBS and 164,000 viewers on TruTV, the College Softball game of Alabama vs. Arkansas drew 569,000 viewers on ESPN, the UFL game of D.C. Defenders vs. Birmingham Stallions drew 951,000 viewers on FOX, the MLB simulcast games of Texas vs. Atlanta and Baltimore vs. Kansas City Royals drew 138,000 viewers on MLB Network, and On Patrol Live drew 790,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 171,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 17,000 viewers (down 15%), Females 18-34 had 15,000 viewers (down 11.8%), Males 35-49 had 88,000 viewers (down 1.1%), and Females 35-49 had 51,000 viewers (up 8.5%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 105,000 male viewers and 66,000 female viewers for a split of 67.3% in favor of males.
