Jimmy Jacobs on Misconceptions Over His Former AEW Job, Positive Impact of AEW & Tony Khan to Wrestling Industry, Tony Khan’s Leadership & AEW’s Creative Process for Shows, Reason for His Departure

BodySlam.net’s WrestleMobs held a recent interview with former AEW creative writer Jimmy Jacobs.

One of the topics discussed included Jacobs thoughts about the misconceptions surrounding his involvement at AEW during his time in the company.

“I would challenge anybody to name one segment that I wrote and produced at AEW.

Mostly, what I did at AEW was admin stuff… I was a channel for information.”

Jacobs also gave his thoughts about the false narratives about his backstage job in AEW and the lies that he was leaking stuff to WWE.

“There were people that had this narrative that I was a leak in WWE, which I absolutely 100% was not. It was just a complete fabrication.

I still honestly haven’t gotten used to being judged by lies.”

Jacobs also gave his thoughts about the positive impact that AEW and AEW CEO Tony Khan has had on the wrestling industry.

“Tony Khan has had a positive effect on the wrestling business that it can’t be understated. So many people are making a living and making good money because of Tony.

There are so many jobs, so many guys making good money.”

Jacobs also gave his thoughts about AEW’s impact on talent pay and opportunities in wrestling.

“WWE raised the rates that they were paying the boys right around the time that AEW started. I don’t know if there’s a direct correlation, because obviously there’s the Fox deal and the Saudi Arabia deal, but I would guess that AEW’s presence had something to do with the guys in WWE making more money.

Everybody in the wrestling business is making more money because of Tony Khan, and his presence, the presence of his company, and what he chose to put on television also has affected how WWE… you know, what they do.”

Jacobs also gave his thoughts about Khan’s leadership and AEW’s creative process for shows.

“Tony has ideas of what he wants to do. I then sort of organize that information, and then ultimately I give the information to the appropriate people at the appropriate time. That’s because you don’t want too much information getting to too many people too soon, right? Because things change and this and that, and you don’t want, you know, leaks and whatever see so, like, there’s like, a proper flow of information of, like, who needs to know what, when.”

Jacobs also gave his thoughts about Khan’s lasting influence on the wrestling industry.

“Tony really pushed AEW into being a place where talent could actually thrive.”

Jacobs also gave his thoughts about his reason for his departure from AEW this past October.

“I didn’t take a day off. And then once everything caught up with me, I was like, Yep, I need some time.”
