AEW and Warner Bros Discovery reportedly are currently considering plans to hold multi-hour specials during this year’s NHL Playoffs, according to Beyond The Bell.
Andrew Zarian reported that one source spoken to stated that WBD is currently willing to try some experiments for AEW during sports playoffs on their networks instead of having AEW cancel their show for that particular week. Zarian reported that the idea would be to try to attract different types of fans for AEW.
Zarian reported that WBD is currently considering plans during this year’s Stanley Cup Finals to do something “very big” for AEW including the possibility of a four-hour special. This potential four-hour special reportedly might not necessarily be one show with a four-hour runtime and instead would be a multi-hour block of AEW programming. Zarian stated “the idea is still soft. it could be just Dynamite on and then followed by a Collision, so a four-hour block.”
In regards to WBD’s current view of AEW, Zarian reported that those spoken within WBD have stated very positive stuff about AEW and how AEW’s ratings for shows and the online disclosure over it does not even resonate with them. Zarian stated “I’ve been hearing very positive stuff from WBD, and I’ve brought up the ratings and the internet chatter to them. It doesn’t even resonate. The messaging on the internet’s not even resonating with these people and they’re in key positions there.”
This year’s NHL Playoffs are currently scheduled to take place following the end of the regular season on April 17th with the Stanley Cup Finals to exclusively air on TNT.
AEW most recently held two one-hour blocks for their Collision show this past weekend as the Collision Slam Dunk Saturday and Slam Dunk Sunday specials following those nights coverage of the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on TNT.
