More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 7th
The May 7th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW’s overall viewership, key demographic ratings, and key demographic ratings be equal to last week’s show.
AEW drew 629,000 viewers and a 0.16 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was #10 place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s equalness this week was due to the small increase from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and the large gains from their younger male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 72.7% and 2.3% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the stiff sports competition from the 2025 NBA and NHL Playoffs and the large declines from their younger female key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were down 33.3% and 11% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that the viewership on MAX for the show is currently not known. Meltzer also reported that while the viewership for AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory is currently not known, it drew a 0.09 rating which is one of the lowest lead-in numbers for a Dynamite show since Dynamite’s move to TBS.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2025 NBA Playoffs Game 2 of New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics drew 4,258,000 viewers on TNT and 348,000 viewers on truTV, the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Game 2 of Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Carolina Hurricanes drew 1,041,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB games of San Diego vs. New York Yankees and Cincinnati vs. Atlanta drew 369,000 viewers on MLB Network, Survivor drew 4,426,000 viewers on CBS, Dr. Pimple Popper drew 341,000 viewers on TLC, Expedition Files drew 583,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Summer House drew 335,000 viewers on BRAVO.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 208,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 64.9% in favor of males.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 11.5% in overall viewership and down 35% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 key demographic viewership was down 27.5% compared to the same week last year. Meltzer also reported that one main reason for the large declines is due to the unknown key demographic viewership migration on MAX compared to last year’s show.
