WWE: Shotzi on Reason for Her Social Media Promo Prior to Her WWE Release, Goldberg Retirement Match Plans Update, Alberto El Patron & Several Other AAA Talents Being Signed to WWE Contracts Update

Shotzi Comments on Reason for Her Social Media Promo Prior to Her WWE Release

As noted before, Shotzi was among 17 talents released from WWE last week. Shotzi’s departure was revealed to have been due to her contract not being renewed by WWE.

A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast featured Shotzi as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Shotzi’s thoughts about how she is currently feeling for the future of her wrestling career.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect this but I feel so free and like this weight is lifted off me. I feel clarity and extremely motivated and excited for the future. I’m ready to get to work. I’ve been sitting at home for what feels like the last two years. I’m excited to get back at it.”

Shotzi also gave her thoughts about her social media promo and her thoughts process for posting it.

“It was definitely me being like, I can connect to an audience and I can talk. I never really got the opportunity to be on the mic, and that is something I always wanted to show. Honestly, promos are what got me into wrestling. The story side is what got me into wrestling. I never got to show that side of me. I wanted to put that out there and be like, ‘You guys can not re-sign me or you can get this.’ Either way, I would love an answer.”

Shotzi also gave her thoughts about if there was any response from WWE over her social media promo video.

“No. I got the call two days later. Legal called me. ‘Hey, we’ve got some bad news.’ ‘Okay, cool, later.’ It was a very short conversation. I think that got the ball rolling. During Mania, I was talking with Talent Relations, ‘Hey, my contract is up in a few months. Are we going to talk?’ They were like, ‘Yeah, we’ll hit you up soon.’ That promo was a reminder to hit me back up.”

Goldberg Retirement Match Plans Update

As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg will be having a retirement match in WWE for his wrestling career at some point this year.

WrestleVotes reported that their sources stated that Goldberg’s name has been floated internally within WWE over the past week. It was reported that Goldberg’s return is currently expected to be nearing.

In a follow-up report, WrestleVotes reported that there has not been any word from their sources regarding Goldberg making his potential return at this Saturday’s Backlash 2025 event nor is he expected to be at the event.

It was speculated that Goldberg could be making his return for WWE’s next Saudi Arabia event this June.

In regards to Goldberg’s opponent for his return, Fightful Select reported that their sources familiar with the situation stated that WWE officials have absolutely discussed a Goldberg vs. Gunther match for this year and it is currently on the table. It was reported that no other details is currently known regarding the plans for this potential match.

Update on Alberto El Patron & Several Other AAA Talents Being Signed to WWE Contracts

As noted before, WWE announced this past April that they have acquired Lucha Libre AAA. Alberto El Patron and several other AAA talents are currently believed to have been recently signed to official contracts with WWE.

Dave Meltzer reported in a special preview edition of this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there has been conflicting stories from several sources spoken to regarding the list of AAA talents and if any deals were actually made. One source within the Mexican media stated that AAA talents being signed to WWE deals is accurate while one source close to some of the talent have dispiuted the entire story and stated WWE has not signed contracts with anyone. Another source spoken to within WWE stated that they had never seen that list of talent and believed it was probably a legal formality at the AAA end.

Meltzer reported that WWE is currently expected to be watching AEW’s upcoming show on June 18th at the Arena Mexico and will be keeping an eye on CMLL talent who appear on that show. Similar to Stephanie Vaquer, Meltzer reported that WWE will likely attempt to sign those who look impressive in their eyes away from CMLL.

Meltzer reported that WWE is trying to avoid that type of situation from happening to them for their upcoming Worlds Collide event this June by making sure any AAA talents who appear will have been signed to WWE contracts beforehand.
