MJF Gives Mistico Match at AEW Grand Slam Mexico & Match Made Official for Show

Wednesday’s AEW Summer Blockbuster show at the Theater Of The Clouds At Moda Center in Portland, Oregon featured one new match announced for the card of next week’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico.

This new match announced was a singles match of MJF vs. Mistico.

This match was initially setup over recent weeks shows over MJF’s issues with Mistico and promising to give him a match at Grand Slam Mexico if he impressed him at AEW’s Summer Blockbuster show. Following Mistico’s victory over Blake Christian, the Hurt Syndicate came out and MJF agreed to give Mistico a match at next week’s show. MJF then proceeded to insult Mistico and stated he will not just get anyone but instead the return of a patriot. This led to American style patriotic music playing as a giant United States flag unraveled from the rafter with MJF heads replacing the stars and confetti popping off from the stage.

After some insults banter between MJF and Mistico, the rest of the Hurt Syndicate attacked Mistico leading to “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight, and Mascara Dorada coming out to save Mistcio and engaged in a brawl.

Afterwards it was announced that this match was made official for Grand Slam Mexico.

Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada Feud History Vignette Airs on AEW Summer Blockbuster Show

Wednesday’s AEW Summer Blockbuster show also featured AEW airing a vignette recapping the storied history of Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada history and feud from their days in New Japan Pro Wrestling to their current time in AEW to hype up their upcoming Winner Takes All match at All In Texas.

New AEW Unified Title Officially Unveiled at AEW Summer Blockbuster

Wednesday’s AEW Summer Blockbuster show also featured AEW officially unveiling a new AEW Unified Championship belt.

During the show, Tony Schiavone was seen in the ring and called for both Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada and International Champion Kenny Omega for their Winner Takes All match contract signing for All In Texas.

Schiavone stated that the winner of this match will become the new AEW Unified Champion and took off the cover revealing this brand new belt on the contract signing table.

Kazuchika Okada Joins Forces with Don Callis at AEW Summer Blockbuster Show

Wednesday’s AEW Summer Blockbuster show also featured Kazuchika Okada joining forces with Don Callis.

During the show, Callis confronted Okada backstage and asked why Okada is in the Winner Takes All match and not someone like Kyle Fletcher or Konosuke Takeshita. This led to Okada getting upset but before anything else could happen, the Don Callis Family showed up to protect Callis.

Later in the show, Callis came out to interrupt Okada and Omega’s match contract signing for the new AEW Unified Championship. After some words of complaining by Callis, Omega responded back bashing Callis and stating that he’s heard enough and already beaten Fletcher and Takeshita and they can both get to the back of the line for a shot after this match is done. Omega then stated that he knows all of Don’s tricks and nothing will ruin this match. Callis responded stating that Omega didn’t see this one coming, which was revealed to be Okada attacking Omega from behind and joining forces with Callis.

After some more attacks including Callis handing a police baton for Okada to use on Omega, AEW officials and medics ran out trying to put a stop to it and attend to Omega. Medics proceeded to put Omega into a stretcher only for Callis to threaten to attack the medics and Okada leading to the medics clearing away. This led to Okada hitting an elbow drop to Omega from the apron resulting in Omega spitting up blood. This then led to Callis and Okada running away and got into a SUV to escape.

The WorkHorsemen Make Surprise Return at AEW Summer Blockbuster

Wednesday’s AEW Summer Blockbuster show also featured The WorkHorsemen’s JD Drake and Anthony Henry making their surprise returns.

During the show, The Learning Tree’s “Bad Apple” Bryan Keith and Big Bill were seen backstage being interviewed by Lexy Nair. Bill and Keith talked about their recent victory over the Gates of Agony and called out for any other team to face them. This led to the WorkHorsemen showing up to interrupt and accepted the challenge.

This was Drake’s first appearance since this past November due to a foot and ankle injury and for Henry since this past October due to a torn biceps injury and surgery.
