More on Bushiroad’s Sale of NJPW to TV Asashi & CyberAgent

As noted before, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s parent company Bushiroad announced this past May that their Board of Directors agreed to transfer all of the company’s shares in NJPW to TV Asashi and CyberAgent Inc. Busiroad’s ownership stake in Stardom was not involved in the deal and they will remain as Stardom’s parent company.

Weekly Gendai reported that their sources stated that Bushiroad had been considering selling NJPW since 2025 and had approached TV Asashi’s upper management about the possibility of a deal around this past February. It was reported that TV Asashi had already owned 22.7% of NJPW prior to the sale and has been NJPW’s longtime broadcast partner.

It was reported that Bushiroad officials felt that they had reached the limits of how much profit they could make from NJPW for the reason for their decision to sell the company.

One source within TV Asashi reportedly stated that while TV Asashi officials reacted positively to the idea, they felt limited in what they could do on their own and made the decision to bring CyberAgent into the process. CyberAgent is the parent company of streaming platform Abema which carries pro wrestling and is the current broadcast home of WWE in Japan, which will be changing soon due to WWE leaving the platform for Netflix.

It was reported that CyberAgent considers wrestling to be strong content with the potential for overseas expansion. CyberAgent is the current parent company of Pro Wrestling NOAH, DDT Pro Wrestling, and Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling through its subsidiary CyberFight.

In regards to potential plans for inter-promotional matches between NJPW and other CyberAgent owned promotions, it was reported that future plans regarding this potential idea are still undecided.
