A recent episode of the AEW Close Up with Renee Paquette show featured Skye Blue as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Blue’s thoughts about “Timeless” Toni Storm being her favorite opponent in AEW so far.
“Probably Toni Storm. I feel like every time I wrestle her, it just gets easy, like not easier, like I feel more comfortable in the ring more confident in the ring, and it is the coolest thing to me to pick her brain because she just gets it. Like she gets this and she’s a freak man she is also an awesome human being. I just instantly felt comfortable around her and being able to like ask questions like, this is probably a silly question. You know, I don’t have to preface it with that, it just makes me feel comfortable enough that I could just ask my question or, you know, if, I have a worry in the back of my head, she’ll call me like that. It’s just the coolest thing ever. Get back here so I can beat you up.”
Blue also gave her thoughts about her competing in hardcore matches and how she gets “excited like a little kid on Christmas” for them.
“I feel like a lot of people view hardcore matches as cop outs. Like, ‘oh, if you can’t make it in a real match, this is what you resort to.’ But I don’t think of that at all. I think it’s a different art form because there’s more suspense. There’s, ‘oh, you have to set this up. What are they gonna do with that? Who’s gonna go through it? What’s gonna happen?’ It’s a different type of roller coaster or a different type of adrenaline. It’s not for everybody and that’s totally fine. But for who it is for, I think you just get a thrill and you get the butterflies, and you get excited like a little kid on Christmas. That’s how I feel in those matches.”
Blue also gave her thoughts about being able to pick Jon Moxley’s brain and others in AEW and about things and how she is terrified to tell Moxley they met before.
“I haven’t told him that I met him and I’m terrified to do that. I was very intimidated just because I don’t want to seem like a mark, I don’t want to seem like a fan. But when he helped all the girls for Blood & Guts, it was the most that I got to pick his brain and ask. After that, it’s been easier to ask and pick his brain about stuff, which is still mind-blowing to me, I can pick all these people’s brains like Madison Rayne, Dustin Rhodes, people that I grew up watching, like Toni Storm. I would watch her matches in math class when I didn’t feel like paying attention.”
Blue also gave her thoughts about her conversation with Adam Copeland for advice prior to undergoing surgery on her injured ankle in 2024.
“I had broken bones, but I’d never broken one to the degree it needed surgery, and I was terrified. I did not want to do it. I was like… ‘we can cast it,’ and they’re like, ‘no, it’s detached, Skye. Sit down’. Kyle had mentioned, ‘what if we just ask?’ because (Adam Copeland) had a similar break, and he called and he was like, ‘this is what’s gonna happen. It’s gonna suck at first.’ He kind of explained what you’re gonna feel like when you wake up from surgery, what it’s gonna feel like having metal in your body. He was very descriptive and was like, ‘it’s gonna suck. You’re not gonna want to watch wrestling. You’re gonna want anything to do with it, and it’s gonna be hard not to doomscroll because that’s our life. You went from 100 to 0.’ It was really cool actually hearing like, yes, this is the bad stuff. But it does get better, and then he was actually who got me into reading. I thought it was crazy. He was like, ‘you’re going to want to read.’ I was like, ‘what?’ Because I didn’t even read the books in school. I would skim through them, do the homework, and call it a day. I was like, there’s no way. You’re kidding. He was like, ‘it’s going to help,’ and I remember doom scrolling. It was getting really bad, and I was so mad at my phone. Because I would put it down, and then I would still end up going through it and looking at something. Then Kyle had gotten me a Kindle and I decided to download a book and I started reading it and I finished it like that. (clicks fingers) I was like, ‘oh, this is cool,’ and so now I love reading, and it is so nice.”
Blue also gave her thoughts about how she can still feel where the steel plate starts and ends in her ankle since her surgery.
“There’s some days I can feel where the plate starts and ends. It’s crazy. But I think it’s cause it’s still so fresh, too. But when it gets cold, it hurts and it cracks and it pops and it does all weird things. But he was very descriptive and was like ‘It’s going to suck and you’re not going to want to watch wrestling. You’re not going to want anything to do with it.’ And it’s going to be hard not to scroll and not to doom scroll because that’s our life. You went from 0 to 100 or 100 to 0. And it was just really cool actually hearing like ‘Yes, this is the bad stuff, but it does get better.’ And he was actually who got me into reading.”
