Matt Hardy on TNA’s “Confusing” Advertising of Jeff Hardy vs. Nic Nemeth TNA World Title Watch at TNA Impact! Tapings in Philadelphia

As noted before, TNA Wrestling had advertised a TNA World Championship match between Jeff Hardy and Nic Nemeth in the lead-up to their live TNA Impact! show on July 30 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. TNA also had teased a potential appearance by newly signed Philadelphia 76ers player Lebron James after advertising that they had invited him to attend the show. Neither took place and instead TNA taped the TNA World title match prior to the start of their live TNA Impact! show. This led to some confusion both by those in attendance and online fans and some negative backlash at TNA over the bait-and-switch situation.

A recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast featured TNA World Tag Team Champion and co-host Matt Hardy giving his thoughts about TNA’s “confusing” advertising of the TNA World title match.

“People were saying, like, you need to advertise matches for these tapings. We did a couple tapings where they didn’t really advertise a lot because they didn’t want to spoil things, and they said, ‘You need to advertise matches for the tapings. What is going to be taking place there that night so we can buy tickets. We can sell tickets.’ And even before the Nic Nemeth, KC Navarro match happened, like two weeks before, they advertised, ‘Huge world title match in Philadelphia. It’s going to be Nic Nemeth versus Jeff Hardy.’ And that started selling tickets, and that’s what they need to do. And I agree with that.”

Hardy also gave his thoughts that the graphic for the match did not state that it would actually take place on the live Impact! show that night.

“They went specifically out of their way to put ‘live’ if it was going to be on the live show. And they even put together packages of all the matches that were going to be on the live show.”

Hardy also gave his thoughts about the ads for the match and show were specifically meant for the people in the Philadelphia area who TNA were selling tickets for. Hardy also stated that the match happened as advertised regardless of if people assumed it was meant for the live show and not something that would be taped for a future show.

“Those ads were advertised for the people in the Philadelphia area. That’s who we’re selling tickets for. That match happened on that night as advertised. It was never said, there was never a time where they said it would be on the live broadcast. I mean, reading comprehension is important too.

That is fair. That isn’t wrong. That is fair. But it’s just one of those things, like, several times over, on the website there was a video, on social media it was out there about what all was specifically going to be on the live broadcast. And I think people just saw that match and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, this is such a big match,’ and they just got so excited like, ‘Oh my God, it must be happening.’ But they did not falsely advertise it for the live show ever.”
