AJ Styles Clarifies His NXT Coaching Role
As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles revealed in a recent episode of his Phenomenally Retro podcast that he helped produce the Naraku vs. Tony D’Angelo match at the July 21st WWE NXT show as part of his current duties with WWE’s Performance Center and NXT brand.
A recent episode of The A.J. Styles Show podcast featured co-host Styles clarifying his current role as a coach in NXT and how he is only filling in for Terry Taylor who is currently out due to a knee surgery.
“Well, let me clear this up by the way. One of our coaches had to get knee surgery. I have now taken his place until he’s back. I am not a ‘coach’ per se, that’s down here every week. I am just filling in until he’s back. That’s it. I’m actually having a lot of fun with it, and I’m trying to make everything we do very practical, because this is what I see going on. So, we’re going to do this and this right here and make sense of why you’re doing it. I want to see your footwork, little things like that. I’m changing stuff up a little bit because the more you do the same thing over and over, the less you want to come to class and work hard, because it gets redundant. So I’m trying to change things up a little bit, but not take away from what they already know. First of all, doing something you don’t know how to do is always harder. So when we change it up it’s harder, but it’s also a little bit more exciting and keeps you interested.”
Styles also revealed that he helped co-produce the NXT Underground match between Lola Vice and Kendal Grey for the NXT Women’s Championship at this past Tuesday’s WWE NXT show.
“There were two of us, two producers in that match, Moss and myself. There’s not much you need to do in a match like this because these girls are so good. But if you watch it, there are some sprinkles of AJ Styles in there that you’ll go, ‘Oh yeah, that makes sense.’ But the truth is, Moss and I didn’t have to do very much because they are so good at what they do, both these girls. Kendal’s not just a wrestler, by the way. She took all kinds of mixed martial arts. You can tell when she starts throwing punches, you’re like, ‘Wait a second.’ Then Lola is the same. She can throw and her kicks are just freaking awesome. When you see them, you go, ‘Hold on a second. That doesn’t look fake at all.’ The way they do certain things, it’s just unbelievable. This match that they had, whoever came up with it, and put them in it – perfect. It was perfect. They’re so good.”

Brie Bella Provides Update on Her Broken Scapula Injury
As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer Brie Bella suffered a shoulder injury during her Six-Woman Tag Team match with Nikki Bella & Paige against Fatal Influence at this past Saturday’s WWE SummerSlam Night 1 event in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This injury was later revealed to be a broken scapula injury.
A recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show podcast featured co-host Brie providing more details regarding her broken scapula injury and confirmed it happened when she took a cannonball spot from Jacy Jayne onto the ring steps.
“Unfortunately for me, maybe one of my worst because getting injured… So I broke my scapula. It’s fractured in two or three spots. I think it’s three places, and yeah, it’s really hard to break your scapula, which is really interesting so it just shows you a freak accident which before I get into it, I do wanna say that it’s nobody’s fault — my injury. It’s part of the business. In wrestling, we all sign up knowing. I mean, look at Nikki (Bella); three months ago, broke her ankle in-ring. So we all kind of go in there knowing you take that risk that injury can happen. You never know when, never know what kind of move or when it just happens. So, I did break it and I broke it, for all of you, yes, on the stairs, when I got the cannonball. But, it was weird because when it happened, I instantly knew… I think everyone heard me scream in a way you never heard me scream before. But, it’s kind of like what you said when you broke your ankle. You feel the fire but, it was weird because it was — I felt the fire but I felt my body tense up so much and then it just was such sharp pains. I haven’t been in that much pain in a long time…”
Brie also gave her thoughts about how those backstage were relaying to the referee to tell her to stay out of the match but she kept coming back although she did missed some big moves.
“I started to smarten up to it once we could catch our breath and I finally was starting to say something. The ref kept checking on me because the doctors speak to her and Triple H — everyone’s speaking to her through her headphone… so they were checking up on me and they were asking to me to stay out, but I kept coming back in. Now granted, I missed some big moves and we all had to readjust on the fly… I was laying in the hospital that night feeling like I was just the weakest link and made the match look really sloppy for everyone. But, I think what really did it for me was at the end when I took the spinning X-Factor out, because I kept taking moves out and I’m like, in my head, because it was so painful, I was like, what am I doing? But I gotta keep going, and the doctors kept — they were crying on the ground trying to get to me… I couldn’t even get into the ring properly (for the post-match).”
Brie also gave her thoughts about how her doctor informed her that sacapula surgery is something that is not often performed and the decision was made for her to not undergo surgery and heal naturally. Brie stated that she will be out of action for about three to six months.
“He was like, ‘It’s really hard to break your scapula.’ He was like, ‘No one does surgery on scapulas. If you really want it, there’s one doctor that can do it, but honestly, it’s like breaking your ribs in a way. You just wait till they slowly heal,’ and so that’s what I have to do, and with that, I know I have to get X-rays every two weeks to make sure I am healing. I don’t start P.T. for another two weeks. So they really want me to be bedridden. From there, you guys, I’m out for three to six months. So it all depends how my scapula heals. I like to think us Bellas, our bones heal quick. But, the scapula’s kind of a tricky one…”
