Tony Khan Comments on “The Butcher” Andy Williams Had Been In Talks With AEW In Recent Weeks

As noted before, former AEW wrestler The Butcher, real name Andy Williams, passed away on September 6 following a medical emergency incident at an indie event for Enjoy Wrestling the day before in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Enjoy Wrestling recently issued an official statement stating that the belief from medics on site was that Williams had suffered a cardiac arrest. Ring of Honor held a memorial tribute to Williams prior to the start of this Tuesday’s ROH TV tapings and AEW had dedicated Saturday’s AEW Collision show as a tribute to him.

Prior to the start of Saturday’s AEW Collision show, AEW CEO Tony Khan made several new announcements for the card of the show on Twitter. Besides the match announcements, Khan also revealed that Williams had been in talks with AEW in recent weeks about doing things outside of the ring with the company.

“In recent weeks, Andy had been in conversations with AEW about things outside of the ring. Andy passed away as a very young man at 48 years old. In recent weeks, he had said, ‘I don’t think I’m gonna be able to wrestle forever.’ Andy had ideas for AEW promotions and how he could contribute backstage. Andy just had a few weeks ago, in August, Andy had meetings with my staff that I set up. I was interested in Andy continuing here out of the ring.”

Backstage Update on AEW Plans For Willow Nightingale After Broken Hand Injury

As noted before, Willow Nightingale suffered a broken hand injury during the August 26th episode of AEW Dynamite in Glasgow, Scotland. Despite the injury, Nightingale competed against Mercedes Mone for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In 2026 later that month.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW officials currently have plans to continue using Nightingale on AEW television while her broken hand heals.

It was reported that AEW officials reportedly had originally planned to have Nightingale remain on AEW TV from the time she suffered her injury.

AEW To Air House Always Wins House Show Event From 2021 on MyAEW on Sept. 12th

AEW announced that they will be airing a previously unaired House Always Wins house show event from 2021 on their MyAEW streaming service on Sunday starting at 12PM EST.

This house show event took place on April 9, 2021 at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

This event was notable for The Butcher winning a #1 Contender Battle Royale match for the TNT Championship and facing off against then champion Darby Allin for the title later in the show.
