As noted before, Warner Bros Discovery announced this past April that their shareholders had voted in approval of Paramount Skydance’s acquisition deal for the company. The United States Department of Justice had officially approved Paramount’s acquisition deal this past June but several state attorneys generals filed a joint lawsuit and the Writer’s Guild of America also filed a lawsuit this past July against Paramount trying to prevent the acquisition deal from going through. Paramount recently reached a settlement deal with California and the other States Attorney Generals to resolve the lawsuit. WBD is the current media broadcast partner of AEW.
AEW CEO Tony Khan released a video earlier today on Twitter giving his thoughts about Paramount’s acquisition and merger deal with WBD and his belief that this new merged company will help make AEW stronger.
“I’ve made it no secret dozens and dozens of times I’ve gone on the record and said I look forward to a time when hopefully it will be Paramount and Warner Brothers together. I think it’ll make AEW stronger. I’ve said time and time again, and I believe we are very close to that time.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about Paramount CEO David Ellison being a professional wrestling fan and his belief that Ellison will be a great leader for WBD.
“What a fantastic announcement for AEW and our fans to have the leadership of the great David Ellison coming in. I’ve said it time and time again, this is somebody who loves professional wrestling and loves sports. Who I’ve worked with in the National Football League, whether it’s NFL Films or now CBS and the great partnership with the NFL. This is a great TV producer, a great film producer, and somebody who I think is going to be a great leader for Warner Brothers just like he is now for Paramount.”
Khan also revealed that WBD representatives will be in attendance at tonight’s three-hour AEW Dynamite and Collision show in Fishers, Indiana.
