Cody Rhodes To Present Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Trophy To Tournament Winners

Tuesday’s WWE NXT show at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida featured Cody Rhodes making an appearance.

At the start of the show, a video aired that was narrated by Cody Rhodes who hyped up this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament and the impact his late father had on tag team wrestling and in NXT. Rhodes stated that he will be in attendance at the Finals of this year’s tournament and will be presenting the winners with the trophy.

Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno and The Creed Brothers Advances In Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 2026

Tuesday’s WWE NXT show also featured the official start of this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament and two First Round matches.

The first match was Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno defeating Los Americanos (Rayo & Bravo Americano).

The second match was The Creed Brothers (Julius & Brutus Creed) defeating Harley Riggins & Jax Presely.

As a result of their victories, Dar & Moreno will be facing off against the winner of Fraxiom/DarkState and The Creed Brothers will be facing off against the winner of Shido Ash & Viktor Zanov/Hank & Tank in the next round of this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.

Reina Volcan Makes Surprise Return Appearance

Tuesday’s WWE NXT show also featured Reina Volcan making a surprise return appearance.

During the singles match between Kali Armstrong and Skylar Raye, Armstrong went for her Kali Connection finisher only to accidentally run into the referee sending him out of the ring. As the referee was down. Volcan ran out and proceeded to lay out both Armstrong and Raye before leaving the ring pleased at her actions. This led to Raye managing to place her arm on top of Armstrong as the referee regained his senses and got back into the ring to give the three count pinfall for Raye’s victory.

This was Volcan’s first appearance in NXT since this past July.

Dorian Van Dux Not Cleared To Compete

Tuesday’s WWE NXT show also featured the announcement of Dorian Van Dux not being medically cleared to compete due to a punctured lung injury and his status for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic being questionable.

During the show, Sean Legacy and Zilla Fatu were seen backstage with Legacy informing Fatu that Dux would not be teaming up with them against BirthRight due to him not being medically cleared after suffering a punctured lung. An upset Fatu asked Legacy if that means they would be down a man and Legacy responded stating that he found another person to replace Dux. This led to Dux showing up and telling Legacy that he can compete only for Legacy telling him not to since they have the Dusty Tag Team Classic to worry about. Legacy then revealed that the replacement he found for Dux was EK Prosper.

Current Card For Next Week’s WWE NXT Show

WWE announced four new matches for the card of next week’s WWE NXT show on September 29 at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Among the notable new matches announced was a NXT Championship match of Mason Rook vs. Grayson Waller.

This new match was setup following Rook winning a #1 Contender’s Triple Threat match at last week’s show and Waller revealing during an in-ring promo segment that their match for the title will be taking place at next week’s show.

  • Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 2026 Tournament First Round match – BirthRight (Uriah Connors & Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo) vs. Mini Vikingo & Chazz Hall
