Chris Jericho’s latest memoir, The Best in the World – At What I Have No Idea, features a story about his preparing to work with Mickey Rourke at WrestleMania 25 and how it nearly led to Vince McMahon fighting Frank Shamrock.
The gist is that after Rourke and Jericho appeared on Larry King Live to promote the spot, Rourke thought that Jericho had a legit problem with him and was pissed off. The two worked it out, and Rourke had flown some guys (including Shamrock) to Houston in case Jericho “tried anything funny.” Jericho told McMahon about it and the WWE Chairman called Shamrock a midget. Jericho joked that “if anything goes down, I’ll take Rourke and you take the midget” and Vince said, “Damn right I will.”
Shamrock replied to a request for comment from Bloody Elbow, saying, “LOL, What an ego he has. Vince and Jerico were terrified and the little guy was one of my MMA killers (Clint Coronel) and Vince acted like he was my best friend. Mickey is my bro and I always got his back.”
