— As noted earlier here on the website, Rusev defeated Sheamus for the United States championshipin a competitive match that aired exclusively on the WWE Network after Monday’s RAW from Buffalo, NY went off the air.
Sheamus put up a good fight, but he ultimately fell victim to the Accolade. Sheamus passed out while in the hold, which left the referee no choice but to stop the match due to submission.
This marks Rusev’s first championship gold in WWE and should lead to plenty of interesting storyline options.
— WWE ran a vignette during Raw with Xavier Woods playing a preacher-like gimmick. Woods was preaching on a microphone with a choir in the background; the tag line for the vignette read, “a new day is coming.”
Neither Kofi Kingston nor Big E. appeared, suggesting that the Speed Force stable may have been done away with. Of course, it’s possible he may reintroduce them later as part of a group as well.
Woods tweeted the following after RAW:
“It’s a #NewDay”
