The Boston Herald recently interviewed Spike TV President Kevin Kay, who discussed Spike TV’s commitment to showing combat sports with Bellator MMA and boxing for Premiere Boxing Champions. Spike TV is refocusing its Friday night lineup as a “Friday Night Lights Out” block.
During the interview, Kay was asked about Spike TV and the reported “preliminary discussions” with ROH and if ROH would have a place on Spike TV and the network’s “Friday Night Lights Out” theme.
Kay stated: “I’m not sure there is a deal there. We’re just kind of getting to know each other. . . . I think for Spike, the big question is, do we want to get into the professional wrestling business in any way? And I don’t have the answer to that yet. I don’t know that we’re going to do anything there, but if we do something, it’s probably not part of ‘Friday Night Lights Out.’ We want to keep that for real sports.
“Real sports”, eh Kevin?! Trust us when we tell you that’s not going to go over well with many in the pro wrestling industry. There is a big difference between “scripted” and “fake” and that’s a problem wrestling has always had. The guys wrestling the matches and taking the bumps sure wouldn’t tell you it’s “fake” and not a “real sport.”
