According to sources, there has been “casual insignificant dialogue” between WWE and Rey Mysterio in recent weeks. Mysterio’s situation has changed due to Lucha Underground’s current uncertainty regarding a second season.
Mysterio originally left WWE because they weren’t doing anything with him and Lucha Underground was intending to build around him as his main star. The fact that they tape closer to his home was also attractive, giving him the chance at a good guaranteed contract and still being able to work indy dates when he desired. WWE is still in need of a Latino star, and Kalisto and Sin Cara are largely considered to be “typecast” in the lower card.
