Jimmy Snuka will not go to trial on charges of involuntary manslaughter and third-degree murder until his mental competency can be determined. Snuka’s defense lawyer made the argument that his client was not mental fit to stand trial in the case, which relates to the death of his then-girlfriend Nancy Argentino in 1983.
Snuka was arrested back in September on the charges after the investigation was reopened in 2014 due to disparities in Snuka’s story of how Argentino died over the years. Snuka’s attorney claims that his client isn’t mentally competent and has very little understanding of what is happening to him. He claims Snuka has no memory of Argentino’s death and that he tested positive for signs of dementia in 2010. The DA in the case argues that Snuka is acting and is more competent than he is letting on.
The judge ordered a mental evaluation, and the trial — which was to begin on March 22nd — will not start until the results of are back. The competency hearing will be held on March 18th.
