According to sources, WWE really wanted Will Ospreay for the Cruiserweight Classic. Ospreay signed a two-year deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling, which is what ruled him out of the tournament. In recent weeks, talk turned to WWE considering working through NJPW in order to get to use him, but that never went anywhere.
Ospreay won this year’s NJPW Best of the Super Juniors Tournament.
