Shelton Benjamin spoke with Jim Ross for his Ross Report podcast and discussed the injury that put a stop to his WWE return. As noted previously, Benjamin suffered a torn rotator cuff that requires surgery which means that his return to the company is on hold.
Benjamin told Ross that it was a full tear and there were several more minor tears found. Benjamin said that he suffered the injury when he took a “unique suplex” during a Pro Wrestling NOAH match and has been working with it for two and a half months; he noted that he knew he may have been injured right after taking it and that it wasn’t anyone’s fault, but rather an issue of miscommunication and timing.
Benjamin first learned of the injury during his WWE physical and confirmed that he will need surgery, which he wants to get done as soon as possible. He said he had his “boo hoo” moment last weekend and is getting down to business now. The recovery time could be six months to a year and he’s planning for the worst-case scenario.
When asked if he would be putting WWE back on his radar after his recovery, Benjamin said WWE is always on his radar and it was always a matter of a deal that worked for both. He said getting back to WWE is his goal, saying that the last couple of weeks have been “emotional” and that he went from an all-time high to an all-time low.
