Ric Flair was interviewed (along with Hulk Hogan) by Chris Van Vliet and was asked about the possibility of Ronda Rousey facing Charlotte Flair at next year’s WrestleMania.
Flair said:
In my humble opinion, if Rousey wants to elevate her status in the company she needs to go through The Queen and The Queen ain’t afraid of her, I got news for ya.
I’m not involved obviously in any of the thinking but if they’re ever going to put the women where they belong, this is the year because I think Ronda has only signed a one year deal and then she wants to get out of there. She wants to have kids and all that. She just needs to be prepared to lose. Not if sure if Ronda likes that.
When it was announced that she signed with WWE earlier this year, Rousey was quoted as saying that WWE will be her priority for the “next several years,” however, so we’ll see if what Flair said is actually true or not. It could also just be a situation where she has an option to renew the deal after one year. Rousey also signed in January, so if it’s just for one year, that would mean it would expire in January of 2019, which is before WrestleMania, so I’m not sure if Flair actually knows the specifics of her deal.
Rousey told ESPN in January, “This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab.”
