Rey Mysterio, who has been working without a WWE contract for several weeks, has still not re-signed with WWE, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.
But negotiations are apparently ongoing and it’s possible, or even likely, that Mysterio will sign. “My gut is still, as it’s been all along, that he will [re-sign],” Meltzer said.
Mysterio lost the Eye for an Eye match last night against Seth Rollins, leaving with his “eyeball” out of its socket, but WWE later gave themselves an out, saying that “medical officials” didn’t think he had severed his optic nerve, and there was a chance that he could maintain his eyesight.
If Mysterio re-signs, WWE left the situation open-ended to allow for his return. If he doesn’t re-sign, the match was a way to write him off of the show.
At last word, Mysterio and WWE were at odds in terms of money, with Vince McMahon so far not willing to meet Mysterio’s demands, according to Meltzer.
