Velveteen Dream made his return to WWE during the August 12th episode of NXT following a lengthy absence involving a car accident and past allegations against him. While Triple H recently stated that the company had found nothing against Dream during their internal investigation, Dream’s return generated “significant heat” within NXT’s locker room.
This past Wednesday’s episode of NXT featured Dream defeating Finn Balor in a second chance qualifier for the NXT North American Championship Ladder match at next weekend’s TakeOver: XXX event.
During the episode, the hashtag #FireVelveteenDream trended on Twitter from fans who were vocal about their displeasure regarding Dream’s NXT return and Triple H’s recent comments on his allegations.
Besides growing backlash from NXT’s locker room and fans, WWE’s decision recently resulted in some mainstream media attention with sports website Deadspin publishing an article detailing Dream’s allegations and Triple H’s public responses over the issue.
