As noted before, WWE issued a new edict to their talent earlier this week that forbade them from using outside third party services involving their WWE “name and likeness.” An official statement released by the company stated that this new ban was meant to protect the company’s intellectual properties and its revenue generating capabilities.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that several WWE wrestlers plan to remove references to the company and their character names from their Twitch accounts and hope that that will satisfy WWE’s edict. Paige is now using her real name, Saraya, on her Twitch channel.
Johnson also reported that the ban also covers talent who have store accounts with Pro Wrestling Tees. In regards to the status of YouTube channels, Johnson reported that it is currently not known if this new ban will require talent to shut down their channels not owned by WWE.
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that when talent were first told of the new ban, there was some confusion due to WWE’s Senior Director of Talent Relations Mark Carrano stating that the ban also extended to talent’s real names for outside third party services. Meltzer reported that this was not the actual case and instead the company simply does not want their talent to be making monetary deals on their own under their real or WWE names while under contract.
