As noted before, Adam Cole’s NXT contract with WWE expired last month but he has agreed to continue working for the company until after TakeOver. Cole’s contract situation came as a surprise to many WWE officials due to their misconceptions on when it was meant to initially expire.
Fightful Select reported that while he has yet to agree to a new long-term contract, Cole still has a positive relationship with top NXT officials and there is “a lot of mutual respect there.”
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Cole is currently in talks with WWE. Meltzer also stated that there has been no indication at this point that Cole is AEW-bound despite his girlfriend Britt Baker currently working in the company. Meltzer originally reported that AEW has given Cole an offer, but later corrected the report on Twitter after it was denied by Tony Khan.
Update
Fightful Select reported that their sources within WWE stated that Adam Cole is currently scheduled to be backstage at tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown for a “high level meeting” with Vince McMahon.
