As noted before, WWE released Jeff Hardy from the company this past December following issues involving Hardy’s conduct at a house show event in Edinburg, Texas.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources within WWE stated that WWE’s Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis had called Hardy a few weeks ago offering a deal to bring him back to the company. Meltzer reported that this offer included Hardy being put into the company’s Hall of Fame as a member of its 2022 class.
Hardy reportedly turned down the offer and had asked for his drug test results since he knew it was not going to show a positive result for recreational drugs. Following his request, Hardy reportedly received his drug test results around six weeks later.
Meltzer reported that his sources stated that the current feeling within WWE is that they do not want him signing with AEW. The reason is due to the realization that the Hardy Boys would be revitalized as a high level star status act benefiting AEW.
In regards to Hardy’s current non-compete clause with WWE, Meltzer reported that it is currently expected to expire on March 9th.
