MLW Signs New Streaming Deal with Pro Wrestling TV

Sports Illustrated held a recent interview with Major League Wrestling owner Court Bauer. One of the topics discussed included Bauer revealing that MLW recently signed a new deal with wrestling streaming service Pro Wrestling TV.

“It’s so important to be on a streaming service that is free for viewers. Now, on PWTV, people will be able to access our specials and our weekly show, and it’s all going to be free. We’ll still have a linear presence on cable, as well as our long-term partner with BeIN Sports, which we’ll be sharing more about soon.

Over time, our entire catalog will be available on PWTV. Since it dates back 20 years, we’ll be migrating it over in batches. You’ll be able to watch CM Punk from 2002, as well as Jacob Fatu and Microman from 2022.”

PWTV President Brandon Blackburn stated that this deal with MLW was the biggest acquisition in his company’s history.

“The acquisition of MLW is our biggest to date. We both share the same passion of creating something of real value for the pro wrestling fan. More original content is going to arrive in 2023, so we’re looking to build with MLW and help bring them to new heights.”

NJPW News & Notes

Prior to the start of this past Sunday’s Declaration of Power event in Tokyo, Japan, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced that they have recently signed Kazakhstani amateur wrestler Oleg Boltin to an official contract with the company.

NJPW recently announced that they will be dedicating next year’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event in honor of the late Antonio Inoki. It was also announced that more details regarding their plans for Inoki’s honoring will be announced at a later date.

NJPW also recently announced two new matches for the card of their Wrestle Kingdom 17 event on January 4, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan:

• IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Four-way match – Hiromu Takahashi vs. El Desperado vs. Master Wato vs. Taiji Ishimori (c)
• IWGP World Heavyweight Championship – Kazuchika Okada vs. Jay White (c)

NJPW also recently announced a new match for the card of their Battle Autumn 2022 event on November 5th in Osaka, Japan:

• Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) vs. mystery opponents

Misc. Wrestling News & Notes

As noted before, former wrestler Tammy Sytch was arrested this past May in Florida following a police investigation into a fatal car accident involving Sytch this past March. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that Sytch’s scheduled pre-trial hearing for this Thursday was recently postponed to a new date of December 8th based on recent court records. Johnson reported that Sytch’s lawyer had requested and was granted the delay for the hearing for currently unknown reasons.

This past Sunday’s Fight Club 2022 Night 2 event for Game Changer Wrestling in Atlantic City, New Jersey featured Joey Janela defeating Cole Radrick in a title vs. title match to retain his DDT Extreme Championship and be crowned the new GCW Extreme Champion.

The Great Kabuki, The Great Kojika, and Masa Saito were recently inducted as this year’s class for the Japan Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame.

During a recent episode of the Foley is Pod podcast, host Mick Foley revealed that he was recently contacted for interviews for future episodes of VICE TV’s Dark Side of the Ring series. Foley stated “I just thought, man, there’s going to be a lot of depth on this show. I didn’t realize you were going to have some episodes that weren’t just that weren’t dark by nature, like The Brawl for All, the trip to North Korea, and things like that. It’s gone on to be such a great show. I look back and think, ‘Man. Not only was it a lot of money for a fairly easy job, but it would have been a really great show. So I’ve really been happy with my appearances on Dark Side of the Ring, where I talk about Tommy Billington or Luna and they’ve asked me about my availability for a couple in the upcoming season.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

A recent indie event for Smash Wrestling featured indie wrestler Psycho Mike losing to a dog named Very Good Boy, real name Daiquiri, in a quick squash match.

MLW recently announced that Davey Boy Smith Jr. will be making an appearance for the company at their Fightland 2022 event on October 30th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
