As noted before, CM Punk was involved in another backstage incident in AEW. This new incident involved CM Punk and Jack Perry getting into a physical altercation backstage at Sunday’s AEW All In event at Wembley Stadium in London, England. This incident revolved around an argument over a glass breaking spot between the two backstage at a recent Collision show.
The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that his sources stated that the current belief is that AEW has suspended both Punk and Perry over their recent backstage incident. Alvarez reported that both are currently expected to remain suspended during AEW officials’ investigation into the incident which would mean that neither will be able to work at this Sunday’s All Out 2023 event.
In regards to the backstage fight itself, Haus of Wrestling’s Nick Hausman reported that his sources provided some new details and clarified other details that had been reported about this backstage fight. Hasuman reported that Punk had left the venue on his own accord after his match and was not asked to leave as had been done for Perry as had been reported elsewhere.
Hausman reported that Perry had walked up to Punk backstage after his FTW Championship match on the pre-show which led to Punk asking him if they “have a problem.” Perry reportedly is alleged to have responded back stating “do something about it” resulting in Punk putting Perry in a front face lock. Those spoken to reportedly stated that Punk viewed his actions as being a way to neutralize the situation since he’s a trained fighter and did not want to actually get into a fight with Perry. Those spoken to reportedly also stated that no punches were thrown during the incident.
In regards to the backstage reaction to the incident, PWTorch’s Wade Keller reported that one source spoken to stated that Perry is likely to receive more blowback and a likely harsher punishment than Punk over the incident. This source stated that their belief is based on Perry had initiated the situation with his comments during his match on the show and should have known that it would cause an issue afterwards.
